The Middle
If you haven’t heard it, go listen to the last podcast. I talk about this season I’m in currently I have coined the “Mundane Middle”. Let me tell you.. it is sort of exhausting. It is an in between stage of where I was and where I want to be. The exciting beginning is over and the “where I want to be” seems so distant. There is an important skillset to be learned in the middle though. Discipline!
The key to discipline is consistency. I’m learning how powerful consistency is during this mundane middle season. Continuing to make the right decisions to get me to where I’m going is so important. Another key in this is making sure I’m not beating myself up when I don’t hit my short term goals, but understanding and learning from my short comings. It’s easy to just get back into the old habits, but it’s more rewarding to push on and continue to pursue my passion.
So how do you make sure you’re surviving the “Mundane Middle?” Well… I’m not sure because I’m not through it yet, but I have some ideas from things I’ve learned recently.
Identify your WHY
This is KEY to surviving this season, and one that I have developed for myself during this time. You have to stay focused on this and rely on it when you are down in the dumps. When you’re in the middle, this gives you something to look towards as you climb. Share this with someone too, don’t keep it to yourself.
My Why: Helping others live abundant lives that inspire others
Create positive I AM statements for yourself
You need to be mindful of the things that you tell yourself, both intentionally and unintentionally. You will convince yourself the type of person you are, and you will also allow others to influence who you are if you’re listening to their words as well. It’s important to maintain a positive environment and also craft some positive statements for yourself in times that you need them.
My I am statements: I AM healthy. I AM an exceptional husband and father. I AM disciplined.
Find COMMUNITY
This one is so crucial, and also is a follow-up from the last one. You HAVE to find a like-minded community to be able to really thrive in whatever it is you’re looking to accomplish. You can find communities for literally anything with a simple google search. This is an important piece of the first tip as well. This is where you can share your WHY and get some validation.
I hope these tips were helpful to you if you’re in the “mundane middle” like me. And if you’re not, I hope that you find this helpful when you get to that point. If you’re thriving in the middle, I’d love to hear your tips. You can email those to josh@approachtheclimb.com.
Until next time…
